I will be driving from San Francisco to LA in early September. I won't have much spare time.
Does anyone know if there are any SWFF opportunities along that route?

Hi Phil, Sorry, seems I'm a bit late on this one. :)

You'll find Corbina on most beaches. Just cast parallel to the shore in knee deep water and drag the fly back through the surf. the fish are very close inshore and great fun. heavy eyed brown clouser or crazie charlie will catch them. They also have halibut that grow to 40lbs in the surf too!
The sea is very rich there and you should catch something.

Don't forget a licence is required.

Cheers,
Carl

Thanks for the reply. As it turns out, I didn't get a chance to fish on that part of my holiday.

I think the the requirement for a licence was the deciding factor: If I had not required a licence, I would have had a couple of opportunities to cast a fly whilst the wife took photos or looked at Sealions etc. I had made enquiries to obtain a licence before arrival and failed - the search for a tackle shop combined with the fishing during a tight sightseeing schedule would have turned this part of my trip into a fishing trip. I decided to save the fishing for Hawaii a few days later.

Regards,

Phil - for future reference any sporting goods store, Big 5, Dicks, Sports Authority should sell licences, as should any bait and tackle shop. WalMart stores do too.

Off to CA myself next weekend, just taking the 2 wt and planning to visit the San Gabriel River for a bit of trouting. A break from UK temperatures will be nice.

Cheers
