10 days to go before Portcullis and I fly out to Canada, trembling with anticipation and a little anxiety (bearing in mind we only started flyfishing 12 months ago, have had only very :D modest success and nothing bigger than about 2lb.....and are now going after Chinook up to 30/40lb in the river and Coho over 10lb in the sea!! Gulp!! These fish will probably pull back methinks....) I'm so excited I have to make sure wee doesn't come out. As it happens, we're going out two days early due to flight hassles, so we've got to amuse/occupy ourselves for 48hrs or so before Carl can receive us officially and show us the fish. We will take out 8wt stuff but are likely to make berks of ourselves until we are in the company of the master himself. Any words of advice to tide us over the preliminary two days? Any other suggestions for what to do other than watch our spools empty towards the horizon?

Ah. The Gym. I am aware that these institutions exist but alas, have never been quite tempted. I heard that the average heart has 6 million beats in it during a lifetime. I have therefore adopted the sensible policy of making sure I eek mine out as much as possible :P . It is possible that I will lose all that stored advantage within 10 minutes of hooking my first coho, but that's a risk I'm willing to take. Some sort of shoulder harness like I use when wreck-fishing sounds a good idea.

Maybe I'll go on the Wii Fit this week. That should do it.....
