Hi,

Has anyone fished the NC coast, we are there for a week in the summer on Hatteras. Will be take fly rods, any idea what can be caught off the beach at that time?

Garydog, lots of easteners on this website, they could probably give you some info on NC. http://speypages.com/speyclave/

Back from USA trip. Mainly sightseeing, NYC, Philadelphia, Washington, Williamsburg etc....

Hatteras was beautiful! Loads of potential fishing but tough with the fly when exploring. Caught a few blue fish and bream on fly. But also tried bait and had Red Drum, Flounders a puffer fish and a couple of "unidentifiables."

The boats were catching mahi mahi, yellowfin, wahoo & some marlin - but just trolling and the cost was a bit off-putting.

Will hopefully go again and with the experience this time focus a bit more.

Very good fish stocks in general and heavily policed licence and limits even for the sea put us to shame. I wish we could conserve our stocks as well, sometimes on the south coast it can feel like the water is totally devoid of anything!

Maybe we should have a licence & limits too with a real conservation policy that works with proper fines for those not keeping to it.

Hope this helps others or at least whets their appetite.

Next year probably Greece so who knows what we can catch there....
