Packing up my things to move to Australia, however I have heard their customs are very strict. I was wondering if anyone new the best action to take for sending my rods. Do I need to sand down my handle or treat them in any way?

Ally.

I would imagine as you have already paid for the goods in the uk and paid uk duty you have nothing to worry about.

Do you think they will ask you to pay duty on your shoes as you walk through brisbane airport ?

Nothing due on them.

They already belong to you and you are taking them with you.

Same goes for everything else you take except the stuff in your cigar humidifier and your drinks cabinet.

Oh, and your car or motorbike if you decide to take that with you.

Get rid of those at your leaving party :)

I think that he is worried about disinfecting his gear, similarly to visiting New Zealand ?

Yes they topic did stray away for a while. Any information on disinfecting my fishing gear would be helpful.

Hi Ally I moved down to Perth in March this year and had no trouble with customs regards fishing tackle. I just packed all my rods in a 4" dia heavy walled plastic tube and that was it. If your concerned about customs, just give your tackle a good clean over.
They are more concerned with work Tools, gardening tools & equipment like lawnmowers, also wooden items that hasn't been sealed or treated.

Only thing i got removed was the wife had a Christmas decoration that had large dried open pine nuts in it, that was it. They said i could have it back but would cost $200 dollars for quarantine cleaning! I said they could keep it for free

BTW what part you moving too?

A bit off the subject here, but I am on holiday in Perth 16 Jan 08, for 3 weeks. Just wondered if you would like to meet up. Perhaps you could PM me, then I will get back to you.

Cheers

Mike
