The best all-rounder by a country mile is the RMF (Rays Mullet Fly, which is a red-headed Diawl Bach variant). For those of us that use it, it catches consistently and is super-effective for all three UK mullet species:

...and jumbo Thick Lips!

You won't find it in the shops, but it's not tricky to tie. If you're not into tying, I can run some up for a small fee!

Hey Joe do you anoint the beads on the fly with UV gel? Is that to hold them in place, as opposed to using superglue, or is it an addition to the fly?

Hi Andy
I use a wee spot of Bug-bond on the heads. It's slightly flexible so tends to stand up to the odd impact better than the harder UV nail gels.

Joe is absolutely correct. The red headed Diawl bach is the most consitant catcher of Thick Lipped mullet, followed by the flexi-floss shrimp which is a less productive pattern but has accounted for some large (double figure) specimens.
A red flexi-floss blood worm has delivered the vast majority of my Golden greys but the RHDB is quickly gaining its stripes. My largest GG to date, a fish of 3lb, fell to a flexi-shrimp.
Thin Lipped mullet are the most predatory of the three species of mullet commonly found in UK waters and will readily accept any generic shrimp pattern when feeding in shallow water. The flexi-shrimp has provided the majority of my thin lips, followed by a Corophium pattern. My first thin fell to a RHDB, a further endorsement of this patterns generic appeal.

The above patterns are tried, tested and proven. Identifying suitable conditions in which to wet them is the hard part
