Has anyone any experience of swffing from the atlantic beaches in this area? Is it worth a go...?

For the record very difficult to fish off the beach with fly although could be could at the s. point in Arcachon.

Fished at night and caught local style bass, smallish with a black spots (D. punctatus), good fun...

Hope to go again next year and experiment further.

It's easier to fish inside arcachon bay, close to oyster parcs and oyster bars where you'll find bass on an incoming tide. Take car, it can be really muddy but the small estuary of the Leyre river can produce some good fish (2 pounds).

Good season is starting now on sandbars, mainly boat fishing but sometimes bass are really on the shore, chasing bait.

I've fished off the beach @ the bottom of the Dune De Pyla catching small sea-bass and on the other tip @ Cape Ferret catching garfish and weaverfish! Cape Ferret always very popular with bait fisherman but I've yet to see much caught. Next summer we're staying @ Ares so any ideas for more local fishing appreciated.

Garfish in Cap Ferret, more needlefish no ? What is weaverfish ?

Ares is a pretty good location for summer fishing since you'll be out of the crowd during the day. You can acces the shore at the small oyster port and fish for mullet almost anytime and for sea bass during the incoming tide (a long walk on big tides but can be really productive).

A good place to go is "Les Jacquets" when going to the cap ferret turn left to the bay, osyter bottoms at low tide. Bass are usually small around a pound but you can fin some 2 or 3 pounders (summer is not the best time though).

The cap ferret is a good place to fish at high tide around the blockhauss, lure fishermen catch good a big sea bass here.

During summer, night fishing can be a good idea since the bay is really crowdy during daytime.

You still did nice with your fly rod in this area, congrats !!
