Anyone know anything about the fly fishing possibilities off Malta please? I am going out there for a couple of days in a week or so - might take a rod, might not bother! If it is all small bream and octopus, then I won't burden myself. If there is a chance of Leerfish, Barracuda or other small, fiesty fish then I'll waste a few hours over the time I am there. So any knowledge would be soaked up .

Thanks.

around alot of the shore, the water's incredibly deep. Maybe you could try at night from some of those rock marks for Scabbard Fish etc? I don't know Malta so well, but have fished a few times off Gozo - 800 yards from 'shore' there I bottom fished....in 1500 feet of water!!! So deep we needed electric reels and a Luminous lure to bring the fish in! Not the greatest fun but there's a serious variety of fish to be had!

Should have posted this months ago...Malta is fished out. They get a few tuna, small, but the commercials don't get many, maybe a few dozen a year now, thats all....the fishery has been completely raped. If you are looking for a holiday destination only, malta and especially Gozo are wonderful, as a fishing destination, even for a few hours recreation of an evening....forget it.
